Are you a Giver or a Taker?

On instinct, most people will identify themselves as a giver.  Being identified as a “taker” is just… well… not very flattering!  In fact, we are all givers and takers.  Human beings are, quite simply, inter-dependent, meaning we are dependent on one another.  The species would not survive if we did not.

Some people seem to be more giver than taker, and others seem to be more taker than giver.  It’s just the way things are.  In business, we want to surround ourselves with people who are well balanced.  You don’t want to be in a group with people who have nothing you can take.  In other words, people who are beneath you in most areas.  In such a group, you will surely burn out.  You are only a giver, and you need to be able to take as well.

Suppose for a moment that you are in a group where you are way beneath everyone else?  What then?  Can you be a constant taker?  Well, you’d best find something to give if you want to succeed.  You can offer your services to help with group tasks, you can always find something to give back.  Always.  Chances are you won’t be the only “taker”.  You may find some members of your group that are in a similar position as you that you can give to. 

What if you’re not balanced?  Quite simply, you won’t last, and if you do, you won’t be successful.  Think about it.  What relationships do you know of that are one sided work?  Think about a marriage.  If one spouse is constantly giving and the other taking, what are the chances of a successful marriage?  It is wise to seek out people like yourself to work with.  People with whom you have something in common, with whom you enjoy being with, and from whom you can learn and grow.

Take a moment to evaluate yourself.  Are you a giver or a taker?  Do you have a healthy balance?  If not, what are you going to do about it?

What To Do With Whiners

This was sent to members of our marketing group by a truly inspirational guy, Andre Davis.  I felt compelled to share it too - it’s just sooooo good, and some of the best advice anyone can ever receive!  My Comments are in blue, the rest is Andre - thank you for a brilliant piece Andre!

“Learning How To Motivate Your Group”
(AKA: What To Do With Whiners…)

Quick question for ABG Members… Have you ever been frustrated by the people in your group that just can’t seem to get going… All they ever do is show up to the training calls and then pester you with questions or complaints?  Well what are you supposed to do? Ignore them? Motivate them? Cater to their needs? Cut them off completely?

“Andre, I have no problem with introducing my MLM Business to people and having repeat product ordering. We have a system in place to make this simple. Everyone loves the business!”
 
Most of those who come on board for the business, no matter how much support I and my upline give, give up! If they’re not making a living in 12months…they’re over it! I have tried in various ways to encourage them, however, duplicating myself just doesn’t happen. Why?” 

I’ve even had people after less than 12 weeks give up - to those I ask… would you EVER expect to start an OFFLINE business and be in profit in less than 3 months?

That’s a great question, and one that EVERY networker with at least 50 reps will start to wrestle with.
 
I remember feeling quite guilty… Almost depressed for some of the people’s lack of success on my team. In turn, I started spending the vast majority of my time developing new websites, new systems, and new tools in order to help them achieve the success they said they so badly wanted.
 
I basically stopped sponsoring all together and got into the dreaded “management mode”, where 90% of my time was spent on training and tool development.
 
But the funny part, is that nothing ever changed. It didn’t matter what I did for them. It didn’t matter how bad I wanted “success” for them. The people who were getting results, continued to do so, while those who were treading water, kept treading.
 
Understand this right now: The only thing you can do that will TRULY help your business and your team members is to lead by example.
 
Just do the things that you need to personally do on a daily basis to build your business - Advertising, Prospecting, Follow-up, and New Rep orientation. One training call per week for new reps, tops… Spend more of your time one-on-one with your producers, and that’s it.
 
Just as it is a sorting game to find new reps, it is a sorting game to find reps that will work and achieve once they join.
 
The sad truth is that 90% of those who start a networking business aren’t really serious about becoming self-employed. They are  just looking to “buy some hope”, so they can  quite the voices of discontent in their heads.
 
Soon enough, they’ll find an excuse as to why “it didn’t work for them”, and quit.

And there’s NOTHING you can do about it - So don’t spend your time and energy worrying about it. 
In my opinion, the problem is mindset… people to develop their most important asset - their MIND… without real belief in yourself and the REAL possibilities, you will lose interest. 
 
•DO NOT cater to their weakness. Do not change your tools if they are working for you. Do not change your websites if it is working for you. Do not change your system if it is working for you - just because it doesn’t work for others… It never will, and it’s their issue, not yours.

•Build YOUR business. Lead by example, and the right one’s (the few), will follow you. Put your blinders on to everything and everyone else.

•Tolerate ZERO negativity in my life now. Someone send’s an unfriendly email… Adios. They’re off my list and out of my life.  OK… this is the KEY.  No whiners allowed!  And this is what we are creating with the CrazyFoxes Marketing Group - a positive culture of success - whiners just don’t feel like hanging with us!

•”Find new blood” I was at a convention once and I asked a simple question; what I needed to do because my downline had gotten stagnant.  (I had basically stopped recruiting). “Find new blood” was his answer, and he was right.

•You’re not here to save people. You’re here to give them an opportunity to save themselves.  Most won’t. And only they can ever change that.  We will give you everything you need to succeed… all you have to do is succeed.

•As a business owner, it’s much smarter to find “Do-ers” and leaders than it is to turn people into them, (which is basically impossible without their personal conviction to do so).   Personal conviction… there it is again… another word for mind-set.

•It is also VERY important that you leverage LARGE numbers in your business building efforts, because you won’t even notice the whiners, complainers, and quitters when you’re dealing with thousands of people. 

•The best way to do that is to start advertising, then build and maintain a LIST that you drip on over time. Each new contact will bring new, interested prospects and reps to the table.

Historical Moment

You know, I believe that in the future we will be hearing… “do you remember what you were doing the day that Barack Obama was elected President of the United States of America”… what will your answer be?

As a Canadian internet marketer, I have many American friends, some Democrat, and some Republican.  I am very aware that some of my friends are not happy with the outcome of the election, while others are celebrating.  Defeat is tough, and this was a brutal defeat.  Many Republicans and McCain supporters are feeling defeated, and probably a little beaten up today, and to them I offer my sincere empathy.

As a student of the Law of Attraction, I cannot help but admire President-elect Barack Obama.  The first speech I heard him give struck a chord in me.  Politics aside, this man has an inspiring message, and it is a message that can and will impact the entire world.  To those who feel they lost the election, I hope that you are able to look at the glass half full when you look at the overwhelming numbers that suggest a reunification of your great country. 

As a citizen of the world, I want to give my perspective as I watched the election process.  First of all, in his speech, Obama actually spoke to me.  Not figuratively, but in actuality.  He recognized that this election is not only about the citizens of the USA, but the entire world, and he acknolwedged that fact.  Even if you do not believe in Obama, or his message, you can be assured that I am not the only “foreigner” who felt that way.  This man has an uncanny ability to unite people, and it is my opinion that he has already begun to heal the damage done to the image of the United States of America.

I am filled with hope for the world and the world economy.  It is my firm belief that, as was written in the book, The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles at the turn of the century, we are about to witness a change in power.  I am not talking political power - I am talking about a real shift in financial power.  The SGR talks about those who gain wealth and power through competition and those who gain sustainable and true wealth through creation.  Without going into a deep philosophical explanation, the corrupt Wall Street CEOs and execs are out, and the new creators are in…

How to Build Your Business From Home

It would seem that the failure rate in the home business industry would not be so incredibly high if people treated other people the way they’d like to be treated and/or when meeting someone new that you might have an interest in.

Let’s examine this a little. Your at a night club, out on the town for the evening, having a good time. Just an example that might fit here. Let’s say you’re with some friends or perhaps on your own and someone catches your attention. You think you might like to meet this person. Casual conversation, and introductions come before let’s have sex or let’s get married…don’t they?

Well? What’s the difference when it comes to business? Is there something about casual relationship, friendships and romantic relationships that’s different than a business relationship? I don’t think so. Personally I do want to know something about the potential new business partner I am “interviewing” for a position on my team. Qualify might be a bit of a harsh phrase, but really, does this person qualify for my time?

A business partner not carefully chosen can be a real drain on your time and energy. Don’t let it happen to you. Be selective on who you give your time, your training and your support to. You may be brand new to the home based business industry, working from home might be totally new to you. It’s a benefit for you too to be just as selective when choosing who you join with in business. Guidance and support are essential for your success.

Selecting a marketing group for support might be an advantage for you so you get input from a number of different leaders. The person who just signed you up in business may be relatively new to the business also. Blind leading the blind gets no where fast, can you relate?

There’s plenty of techniques you could research, coaches you can listen to, maybe some good material maybe some not so good. Sometimes I do wonder who is training the trainers? So use your intuition. Be natural-be yourself in your business building process. Make friends first, if there is a common interest and a good match with the person with whom you’re speaking, perhaps there’s an opportunity to develop a business relationship.

By the way, I’m not a success coach, personal coach, marketing guru, internet “prophet” or anyone of those pigeon holes. I’m a real person who enjoys working with other people from the comfort of my home. Sincerity and honesty are characteristic traits I value before money. If more people placed more interest in helping other people get a successful start in this industry, the desire to find the next best deal, new flavor of the month business opportunity would not be necessary!
